Case Study: RCI

 

Background

Resorts Condominiums International operating in the competitive space of timeshare, required a specific training programme for their top management.

Objective

To design and deliver a training programme for the top management of RCI and to improve their general management skills with special reference to RCI merging with Avis.

 

Programme

Beyond Outsourcing is the only company in South Africa that has an Executive Management Programme registered with the University of South Africa (UNISA).

The purpose of the programme is to provide companies with the opportunity of giving their managers excellent skills whilst focusing on a key project that has significant importance to them and the company.

Each Manager of RCI therefore became a fulltime student of UNISA.

 

Programme Tailoring

Beyond Outsourcing conducted extensive interviews with top managers over a 6-week period to obtain information specific to their company and objectives.

This information was then written into the content of each module by lecturers at UNISA and tailored exactly according to the needs of RCI.

All of the modules and assignments were then bound in an official UNISA study book.

Assignments

Beyond Outsourcing designed 5 assignments for each module to practically test each delegate on the content and competencies learned during the programme.

Programme Delivery

Beyond Outsourcing used a combination of our consultants and professors from UNISA to lecture on the various modules.

Each module contained 50% team and 50% practical exercises.

Each day was presented off site at a golf estate, so as to ensure that a professional approach and setting was created for each manager whilst removing them from the working environment.

 

Examinations

In conjunction with UNISA, Beyond Outsourcing compiled specific `open book` examinations for each module.

These five examinations were 3 hours in duration and were conducted as part of the yearly official UNISA examinations at their examination centres.

Qualifications

Delegates who successfully passed the 12-month programme obtained a certificate from UNISA.

The certification from UNISA was also then presented to each delegate as part of the annual UNISA graduation ceremony.

Further to this, Beyond Outsourcing arranged for credits towards the University of Southern Queensland MBA programme.

 

Results

  • Out of all the Managers who attended an average result of 78% per assignment was achieved.
  • The group assignment specifically focused on mergers and take-overs and spanned a 3-month period.
  • The result achieved was 82%.
  • Subsequent to the completion of the programme 4 managers from RCI received their MBA`s from the University of Southern Queensland.
  • Most of the Managers who completed the Executive Programme became Directors of RCI and even Managing Director.

 

Feedback received:

`Not only did they learn essential business skills but the tailoring of the programme greatly assisted them in the successful integration with the Avis Group`.
